Baradero's brief historical review

Santiago of the Baradero, it was established as Reduction of Indians, July 25, 1615, by the governor of Buenos Aires, Hernando Arias de Saavedra more known as Hernandarias, whom he had been entrusted by the aboriginal reductions of the north of the province.

The reduction that founded in this place, was named " Santiago of the Shipyard ", Santiago for the Holy employer and Shipyard(Varadero) for little depth of the waters of our river, where the ships were running aground without the danger of breakdowns. Then for an orthographic mistake in an important document and that the custom I leave writing with it "b" labial instead of it "v" felling accepted and venerated by his children and that already some change does not admit we find his name as Baradero.
The first inhabitants were the Indians chanás and mbiguays, that were evangelized in the first instance by Fray Francisco Arenas who was replaced after six months by the Franciscan friar Fray Luis de Bolaños, famous evangelist and deep connoisseur of the soul of the Indians.
Bolaños when he comes to this reduction begins to give origin to the people, teaches the native ones to work the land and inculcates Christian educations, in turn he began to construct the first parochial building.
Hernandarias, sheriff named as chief the neighbor Bartolomé Pinto and as principal chief to the Indian don Bartolomé.
In the year 1622 Fray Luis de Bolaños received the bishop don Pedro de Carranza, Andalusian as him, which confirmed to 219 Indians and remained admired of the good organization that here existed.
In the beginning of 1800, this region, for the richness of its lands it was filling for whites or "Creoles", who were with his stays occupying the best zones of the village, expelling the aborigens, who wanted to recover them, but it was uselessly.
At first Baradero was governed by the Sheriffs until in 1874 they are nominated the Mayors of the Holy Brotherhood; in 1822 and already detached the bows with the Mother Country, the governor Don Martin Rodríguez, with his minister Rivadavia, changes the system naming Syndics or Mayors and Judges; in 1852, after battle of Caseros, the new government names: first Judges and then the Municipal Commission chosen by the people with a President and Judge simultaneously.
In 1887 Don Gregorio Fraga is elected the first Municipal Intendant, spending the court to be an autarkic entity.
To 250 years of his foundation, in 1856, precisely February 4, 10 Swiss families came with Châtel Saint Denis's origin, the capital of Veveyse's District with intentions of work, there being established in our city in called " Rincon de Arrecifes " the first Agricultural Cologne of the Country.
